Personal Journey & Experience
Working and staying in Aamchi Mumbai or city of dreams was always associated with great memories. One of them was my yearly pilgrimage to Sri Sai Shirdi Baba temple. The first time I visited Shirdi was with my area friends on a sumo jeep, that was about many years ago during my junior college days. Money crisis always looms during college days and can be a single point of decision making during those days. After that I had visited several occasions to Shirdi with my friends in many ways. I didn't have much memories of the former visit
So I would like to share the experience with you all is that I recently visited to Shirdi. So, this time my group of friends decided to plan Shirdi for two days including Trimbakeshwar temple, Nashik.
The Real Adventure Now Begins!
So, here comes some fun part. we planned a two-day trip to Shirdi including Trimbakeshwar. We had a two vehicles, Innova & Eeco we are seventeen persons too. The total distance between the megacity and holy city is approx. 230 Kms. But we have to go first at Trimbakeshwar its about approx. 178 Kms from Mumbai & Trimbakeshwar to Shirdi approx. 124 Kms So, we have to depart early in the morning as we decided, I joined a group of fellow friends, each be packed with excitement, as we decided to start a journey early in the morning We left home at 6am so, we can reach Trimbakeshwar at noon. Then after taking darshan & roaming, shopping we have to reach Shirdi at evening. Then we can take rest at hotel, very early in morning we have to take darshan of Baba.
The Main Part Now Begins!........................
The Main Part Now Begins!........................
We started our journey with the name Sai and it was all great then, our car was not the only one which was on those crowded roads, also we spotted few sai bhakts those who will reach Shirdi by walking i.e., Padayatra (traveling on foot) lakhs of devotees undertaking such Padayatra every year. They were wearing printed sai clothes of Mandal or Sanstha and had flags in their hands. So, we were halted so many times to explore beauty of nature & also at tea stalls to take tea as we have so many tea lovers in our group. By taking breakfast we have to move so, that we can reach according to our plan.
At noon about 1 pm our one of our friend told that we have reached on the land of Lord Shiva, Yes, It was none other than Trimbakeshwar Temple, As we went closer to temple we were able to hear the chants saying "Har har Bhole Namah Shivaya".Trimbakeshwar town is an ancient Hindu Pilgrim centre located at the source of the Godavari River, the longest river in peninsular India. The present Trimbakeshwar temple was constructed by third Peshwa Balaji Bajirao (1740-1760) on the site of an old temple.
From the car parking me and my friends walked towards the gate of the temple. We came across gate 2 and were clueless about what to expect. There were a lot of boards about VIP darshan, shoe keeping fees and a lot of flower and puja material vendors dotting the gate. There were security guards standing there and I inquired for guidance. They informed me that there are 2 ways to pay respects to the lord – Free darshan or VIP darshan. Free darshan has a huge queue and would easily take 4-5 hours to reach the sanctum and VIP darshan would take around 1-1.5 hours so, by standing half hour in a line we realised that we won’t reach Shirdi on time as it will take 5 hours approx. to darshan
We done up with the outside darshan, lunch, etc. in less than 2 & half hour time! Now continuing our trip to Shirdi we hoped same for there too.
While travelling one of our friend who manages all of our previous as well as this trip had book hotel online through phone call as we don’t have to trouble to search hotel when we reach. However, it is recommended to take a hotel or real lodge if coming to Shirdi with family. The good news is that there is plenty of hotels available in all ranges from budget, to standard and even premium category to suit the traveller’s needs.
It was 9 PM and I saw a huge board saying, Welcome to Shirdi - The Holy Place of Shri Sai Baba. As we had booked a hotel so, we directly went to hotel. We stayed in Hotel Sai Dham. We found the hotel to be a good one, what I liked about this hotel is its location, situated bit near from the temple. So, by taking dinner as we all were tired & have to take rest so, that we can wake up early in the morning at 3 am & attend Kakad Aarti (Morning Aarti) at 4:30 am.
So, as per a plan we wake on time & getting fresh we all reach right away for the darshan. We were expecting large crowds at the temple, every Thursday is considered to be an auspicious day to do puja and the arrangements made at the temple complex assured us that the authorities too were expecting a massive arrival of devotees. We took our place in the queue and were happy to note that it was moving.
There are ample seating desks made of steel route to Baba darshan; these are superb for elders and children who want to take rest while in the queue. We attended the morning aarti, also known as Kakad Aarti, and again we entered in the Darshan queue and this time it took around one and a half hour to get darshan. I would say it usually takes 2 and a half hours in the queue and finally to have grand darshan of Sai Baba.
After the noon aarti (known as Madhayan Aarti) we went to visit other places in and around the Temple like Khandoba's temple and others are as follows,
- Gurusthan
- Dwarkamai
- Chawdi
- Samadhi Mandir (Main Temple)
- Lendi Bagh
- Museum of Sai Baba
- Samadhi of Abdul Baba and other devotees.
Use of Mobile Phones, Cameras etc. is strictly prohibited under Temples Premises, So no pics of there.
Shri Sai Prasadalya
Shri Sai Prasadalya
We all are hungry as we all gathered at Shri Sai Prasadalya for food, there are three Dining halls.
1. Big hall on ground floor with siting capacity of 4500 devotees at a time. Devotee have to take ticket from Counter to enter the hall (Tickets are free of cost).
2. Two halls of seating capacity 1000 each at first floor. These two halls are having dining tables and meals are paid here. Tickets are available at Ticket counter on ground floor. (Currently 50/-Rs/Person are charged for this halls) The Food at Prasadalaya served free for all the devotees. Besides this, the quality and hygiene of the meal are fore mostly taken care of and is considered to be Asia’s largest Prasadalya. The meal consists of dal, chapati, rice, two varieties of vegetables, and sweet
After visiting all nearby places, we were going for Prasad, shopping etc. After spending the afternoon roaming in around the Shirdi town, we checked out from our hotel for the return journey to Mumbai. We covered everything and returned back in midnight, we all were tired by now but still full of joy and happiness.
As I bid farewell to Shirdi, the echoes of Sai Baba's teachings and the spiritual energy of the sacred town remained in my heart. The journey had been more than a physical pilgrimage; it was a soul-stirring experience that left an permanent stamp on my spiritual consciousness.
